Agentic AI vs RPA: what actually changes for UAE operations

RPA clicks screens; agents reason, call tools and handle exceptions. Where each belongs.

22 October 20263 min readBy the DIA team

RPA is excellent for deterministic, high-volume screen steps. It breaks when a field moves or an exception appears. Agentic AI adds reasoning and tool use, so it can handle variation — but it needs guardrails and approvals.

The pragmatic pattern is hybrid: deterministic steps stay deterministic, and an agent handles interpretation, routing and exceptions, escalating to a human when confidence is low.

What to do next

  • Keep regulated calculations deterministic
  • Use agents for interpretation and exceptions
  • Log every tool call for audit
